DJIBOUTI CITY — Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh met Wednesday in Djibouti to discuss regional and international developments, with a focus on the Horn of Africa and the situation in Somalia.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of supporting all efforts to bolster Somalia’s security and stability, and stressed the need to preserve the country’s unity and territorial integrity.
El-Sisi and Guelleh welcomed ongoing initiatives to strengthen Somalia’s federal institutions and to build the capacity of its armed forces to take full control of the country’s security.
They also strongly condemned the recent assassination attempt on Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, underscoring the urgent need for continued support in Somalia’s fight against terrorism.
In a joint statement, both presidents reaffirmed their commitment to contribute troops to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), aimed at supporting peace and stability in the country.
