Somali PM Oversees Handover of Foreign Affairs Ministry to New Minister

MOGADISHU, Somalia, May 3 — Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Saturday presided over the handover ceremony of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, officially transferring responsibilities from outgoing minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi to newly appointed minister Abdusalam Omer Dhaay.

 

The ceremony took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu and was attended by senior government officials, ministry staff, and invited dignitaries.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Barre praised the outgoing minister for his service, noting his contributions to strengthening Somalia’s foreign relations and representing the country on the international stage.

“I thank Minister Fiqi for his commitment and leadership during his tenure. He played an instrumental role in building Somalia’s diplomatic ties and advancing our foreign policy agenda,” the Prime Minister said.

He also welcomed the new minister, urging him to continue efforts to enhance Somalia’s international partnerships and safeguard the country’s national interests.

Minister Abdusalam Omer Dhaay expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Barre, pledging to serve with integrity and focus on elevating Somalia’s global presence.

The ministerial transition follows a recent cabinet reshuffle aimed at boosting the government’s performance and institutional effectiveness.
