ISTANBUL, Turkey — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Omer Hadliye, on Monday took part in the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which opened in Istanbul.
The two-day summit brings together top diplomats from across the Muslim world, with a key focus on rising tensions between Israel and Iran. Delegates are expected to issue a joint statement calling for an immediate ceasefire to avoid further regional instability.
Minister Abdisalam is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from other OIC member states, as Somalia seeks to strengthen diplomatic ties and deepen cooperation with fellow Islamic nations.
The meeting comes amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East, raising concerns of a broader conflict. The OIC, which represents 57 Muslim-majority countries, is pushing for de-escalation and long-term peace efforts in the region.
Observers say the Istanbul meeting could mark a turning point in diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis and promote dialogue among key regional players.
