Mogadishu – Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali held talks on Saturday with the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, as the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, officials said.

The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital Mogadishu, focused on reinforcing the longstanding relationship between the two countries, with particular emphasis on development, education, and security.

“Both parties underscored the importance of the historical ties that bind Somalia and Italy,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that the talks aimed to deepen collaboration in areas critical to Somalia’s stability and economic recovery.

The discussions also addressed ongoing diplomatic engagement and efforts to enhance institutional cooperation.

Italy has been a key partner in Somalia’s post-conflict development, with support ranging from infrastructure and governance to vocational training and police reform.

The meeting reflects broader efforts by Somalia to strengthen strategic partnerships with European allies amid its push for international investment and long-term peacebuilding.

No further details were immediately disclosed.
