Bariire, Somalia, Aug 10, 2025 – The Commander of the Somali National Army’s ground forces, General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, conducted a field visit on Saturday to the strategic town of Bariire in the Lower Shabelle region, recently retaken from Al-Shabaab by Somali forces and their Ugandan allies from the African Union mission.

During the visit, General Sahal inspected former Al-Shabaab hideouts and defensive positions, where numerous militant bodies, abandoned weapons, and other military equipment were found.

Colonel Ali Cagey, commander of the 17th Commando Brigade, briefed the general on the security situation in Bariire and the ongoing efforts to stabilize the area following the military operation.

General Sahal praised the bravery and dedication of the Somali National Army (SNA) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), encouraging them to intensify operations against Al-Shabaab militants who continue to pose a threat to civilians.

He also urged troops to maintain momentum in securing liberated areas and restoring lasting peace and stability across the Lower Shabelle region and the country at large.
