Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, on Saturday received a high-level delegation from Iraq to discuss strengthening bilateral security cooperation, including the fight against Al-Shabaab.
The Iraqi delegation, led by Senior Advisor to the Minister of Interior, General Ziyad Dhaha Ali, and Director of International Cooperation, Major General Alaa Chanshour Manati, arrived in Mogadishu on an official visit aimed at deepening ties between the two nations.
Talks focused on enhancing collaboration in security, counterterrorism operations targeting Al-Shabaab, military training, and the exchange of expertise, officials said.
Fartaag welcomed the visit as an important step toward reinforcing security relations between Somalia and Iraq.
In Addition, the security minister of Somalia has emphasized the significance of learning from Iraq’s experience in combating extremist groups.
The visit follows a recent trip by Somalia’s internal security minister to Iraq, during which both countries signed a security cooperation agreement focused on joint training programs, intelligence sharing, and counterterrorism strategies.
