Gedo, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has ordered the federal government to urgently deliver medical and humanitarian assistance to civilians affected by the recent conflict in the Gedo region, the presidency announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, President Mohamud emphasized that the people of Gedo “are not alone” and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to support them as they recover from the recent violence.
Federal agencies responsible for humanitarian response are expected to begin delivering aid in the coming days, focusing on medical care, shelter, and essential supplies.
The president also extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the recent clashes in Gedo, expressing solidarity with the grieving communities.
In response to reports of Somali forces crossing into neighboring Kenya, President Mohamud instructed those troops to immediately return to their original positions within Somali territory.
He assured them that no punitive measures would be taken and guaranteed their safety and security.
“The government is committed to protecting the rights and safety of all Somali citizens, wherever they may be,” the president stated.
The situation in Gedo remains tense following the outbreak of violence, prompting urgent calls for de-escalation and humanitarian intervention.
