Las Anod, Somalia – Somalia’s Northeastern regional parliamentary electoral committee on Saturday officially announced the list of candidates vying for key leadership positions in the region’s legislative assembly.
According to the committee, two candidates have been cleared to contest the Speaker of Parliament position:
- Adan Abdullahi Hassan
- Abdiqafar Mahamoud Mohamed
For the position of Second Deputy Speaker, only one candidate, Abdirisak Jama Warsame, has come forward, effectively securing the post unopposed, pending formal endorsement.
The elections are scheduled to take place later today in Las Anod, the administrative capital of the Sool region, where regional lawmakers are gathered to select their parliamentary leadership.
This vote marks a significant step in the institutional development of the newly emerging Northeastern administration, as it seeks to formalize its governance structures.
