MOGADISHU – Somali Minister of State for Defence, Cumar Ali Abdi, accompanied by the Commander of the Somali National Army’s Land Forces, Major General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, met today with a delegation led by Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, who is in Somalia for official duties.
The meeting focused on strengthening the security partnership between the two nations and accelerating joint operations aimed at eliminating Al-Shabaab militants.
Both sides discussed enhancing cooperation between the armed forces of Somalia and Djibouti, particularly in the context of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), which provides critical support to Somalia’s peace and stability efforts.
Minister Abdi expressed his gratitude to the government of Djibouti for its continuous support to the Somali people and government. He praised the vital role played by Djiboutian forces, dubbed “Hiil Walaal,” in the ongoing AMISOM operations, underscoring their contribution to maintaining peace and security in Somalia.
The discussions were seen as a significant step in further deepening the military and security cooperation between Somalia and Djibouti.
Both parties agreed to intensify their collaborative efforts in combating militant groups and continuing joint operations aimed at ensuring long-term stability and peace in the region.
