Mogadishu — Somali government forces launched demolition operations early today in the 7/7 neighborhood of Dayniile district, in the capital’s Banadir region.
Bulldozers and heavy machinery have been deployed to demolish homes, with residents reportedly given little to no warning or opportunity to relocate.
Local residents from the nearby Saban Saban area told Radio Shabelle that security forces blocked access roads to the neighborhood and prevented journalists from reporting on the situation on the ground.
The Federal Government of Somalia has, in recent months, carried out repeated forced evictions targeting vulnerable communities, sparking criticism over the humanitarian impact on displaced families.
