Mogadishu — Somalia’s Federal Parliament officially opened its 7th session on Monday, facing a heavy agenda that includes pressing political, security, and legislative issues crucial to state-building.

The session’s start was repeatedly delayed amid ongoing political turmoil between the government and opposition, heightening concerns that today’s proceedings could be marred by vocal dissent and disruption from opposition lawmakers frustrated with the current political climate.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially inaugurated the session with a constitutional address expected to focus on government achievements, parliamentary priorities for the coming months, and the challenging phase Somalia is currently navigating.

The president is also set to highlight government successes in the fight against extremist groups, financial reforms, and international relations, while urging Parliament to prioritize motions and legislation addressing urgent social needs.

The opening of the 7th session is seen as particularly critical given emerging political waves and outstanding motions yet to be debated, underscoring the delicate balance Somalia’s political landscape faces amid efforts toward stability and governance reforms.
