Mogadishu – Somalia’s Minister of Communications and Technology, Mohamed Adan Moalim (Somali), held a high-level meeting on Monday with a delegation from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), led by Ala’a Nemer, the UNOPS Country Director for Somalia.
The talks, held at the minister’s office in Mogadishu, focused on advancing digital government services, strengthening telecommunications infrastructure, and enhancing cooperation between the Somali government and the UN agency.
According to a statement from the ministry, both sides reviewed ongoing digital transformation projects and stressed the urgency of accelerating the implementation of integrated digital government platforms, designed to make public services more accessible and transparent.
Discussions also covered data management, interoperability between government agencies, and the need to improve service delivery through the use of modern ICT tools.
The UNOPS delegation presented several opportunities to support the ministry, including infrastructure development, digital systems enhancement, and capacity-building programs for government staff working in the ICT sector.
Minister Somali expressed appreciation for UNOPS’s continued partnership and reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to building a unified and efficient digital government system.
“Our vision is to modernize how government services are delivered, ensuring they are accessible, transparent, and efficient,” the minister said.
He also called for expanded collaboration in future technology and communications projects, emphasizing the importance of positioning Somalia among nations that are effectively leveraging digital innovation to improve governance and public service delivery.
