MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Deputy Speaker of the Upper House, Abdullahi Ali Hirsi “Timacadde”, on Saturday met with the newly elected Somali representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) at the Senate headquarters in Mogadishu.

The meeting, which focused on introductions, exchange of views, and general guidance, was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama and several senators from the Upper House of Somalia’s Federal Parliament.

In his remarks, Timacadde congratulated the newly elected lawmakers, who were chosen by the bicameral Federal Parliament on October 15, to represent Somalia in the regional legislative body.

He urged them to “faithfully fulfil the heavy responsibilities entrusted to them by the Somali people” and to uphold the “honour, unity and national interests of Somalia” in their work at EALA.

Somalia’s participation in EALA is seen as a key step toward deeper regional integration, following the country’s formal admission into the East African Community (EAC) in 2023.

EALA serves as the legislative arm of the EAC and plays a vital role in shaping laws and policies that impact member states across the region.
