Somali PM Meets EU Envoy in Egypt to Discuss Security and Political Progress

Aswan, Egypt – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met with the European Union’s Special Representative for the Horn of Africa, Dr. Annette Weber, on Monday during a working visit to Egypt, officials said.

The talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, EU support for Somalia’s security sector, and progress made in political and economic reforms, according to a statement from the Somali Prime Minister’s Office.

Prime Minister Barre highlighted key achievements of his government over the past three years, including enhanced security in the capital, gains in the fight against al-Shabaab militants, rebuilding of national armed forces, economic development, and improvements in public services.

He also emphasized the importance of continued international support during the transition phase of the AU peacekeeping mission (AUSSOM), urging the EU to maintain its commitment to Somalia’s stabilization efforts.

Dr. Weber commended the Somali government’s recent progress and reiterated the EU’s readiness to bolster its support in areas of governance, security, and development.
