MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s under-17 national football team secured a resounding 3–0 victory over Rwanda on Monday, boosting their chances of advancing in the East and Central Africa youth tournament currently underway in Ethiopia.
The match marked Somalia’s fourth outing in the competition, with the young Ocean Stars displaying strong cohesion and an impressive level of skill that allowed them to dominate Rwanda throughout the game.
The victory means Somalia remain unbeaten in the tournament, having recorded one win and three draws from their four matches, collecting a total of six points.
Somalia’s hopes of reaching the semifinals now hinge on the result of an upcoming fixture between Kenya and South Sudan.
A defeat for Kenya would give Somalia a clear path to the last four, while a Kenyan victory would eliminate the Ocean Stars from the tournament.
