MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, on Saturday received a high-level delegation from Plan International at the agency’s headquarters in Mogadishu.
The delegation was led by Angela Muriithi, Regional Director for the Middle East, Eastern Africa, and Southern Africa.
Talks between the two sides focused on early forecasts of an expected drought, strengthening cooperation, and enhancing community-level early warning and rapid-response systems.
According to SoDMA, both parties agreed to accelerate preparedness efforts, improve information-sharing mechanisms, and expand the dissemination of early warning alerts across vulnerable communities. They also discussed developing proposals aimed at broadening future cooperation in line with Somalia’s national disaster-management priorities.
Officials from both institutions underscored the importance of reinforcing their strategic partnership to better respond to emergencies and to create joint opportunities that bolster resilience among Somali communities.
The meeting comes as humanitarian agencies warn of worsening climatic shocks in Somalia, driven by recurrent droughts and extreme weather patterns.
