MOGADISHU, Somalia – Saudi Arabia has become the first country to respond officially to Somalia’s federal government request for emergency assistance as the country battles a severe drought affecting vulnerable communities.

The announcement came after a meeting at the headquarters of Somalia’s National Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA) between SoDMA Chairman Mohamud Moalim Abdulle and Mr. Yazid Abdalla Hamoud, Director of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s Africa branch.

The meeting focused on the drought situation and ways to deliver immediate relief to affected populations.

During the talks, it was revealed that Saudi Arabia had approved emergency aid to help nearly 100,000 people, among the most vulnerable affected by the drought.

Mr. Hamoud said Saudi Arabia “always stands by the Somali people” and is committed to continuing humanitarian support for the country.

SoDMA Chairman Abdulle expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia for the swift response and support, emphasizing that the aid is part of broader efforts to strengthen assistance for drought-affected communities.
