Dhusamareb, Somalia, Nov 30, 2025 — Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye on Sunday attended a ceremony marking the handover of a newly prepared facility intended for the United Nations Political Office in the region, whose mandate across Somalia runs until October 2026.
Speaking at the event, Kariye urged other UN agencies operating in the country to make use of the offices to strengthen service delivery for communities in Galmudug.
He said enhanced coordination with international partners was essential for supporting stability and development in the state.
The ceremony was attended by James Swan, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia, who welcomed the handover and reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to working closely with Galmudug authorities.
Officials described the handover as a step toward deepening cooperation between the regional administration and the United Nations, particularly in governance, political engagement and public services.
