CAIRO — Somalia’s foreign minister Abdisalan Abdi Ali arrived in Cairo on Friday to lead the country’s delegation to the second ministerial conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, officials said.

The two-day meeting, running from Dec. 19 to 20, brings together African foreign ministers, senior Russian officials and representatives of regional organisations to discuss strengthening political and economic ties between Russia and the continent.

The talks build on the first ministerial conference held in Sochi, Russia, in November 2024, and aim to review progress made since then and outline priorities for the year ahead.

Agenda items include expanding trade, attracting foreign direct investment, cooperation in the energy sector and accelerating infrastructure development — areas seen as critical for economic growth across Africa.

Somalia’s participation underscores the federal government’s efforts to diversify its international partnerships and use economic diplomacy to mobilise resources for national reconstruction, the foreign ministry said.
