MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Somali Police Force on Friday denied claims made by the former head of the Mogadishu Port police, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Khadar Mohamed Hassan, who said he resigned after being ordered to release dangerous narcotics into the country.
Police Revenue Command General Bariise, speaking at a brief handover ceremony at Mogadishu Port, dismissed reports of any narcotics being released from the port.
General Bariise said the former commander had been abroad on an official trip and that his duties were temporarily handled by a deputy, who formally handed over the position to the newly appointed port police chief on Friday.
“No narcotics have been released at the port; these reports are fabricated,” Bariise said, emphasizing the official handover between the outgoing and incoming port commanders.
