Somalia, Türkiye ministers discuss boosting social sector cooperation

ANKARA, Türkiye — The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Somalia, Prof. Salim Aliyow Ibro, has held a bilateral meeting with Türkiye’s Minister of Family and Social Services, H.E. Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, aimed at enhancing cooperation in key social sectors.

 

The talks, attended by senior officials from both ministries and Somalia’s ambassador to Türkiye, focused on strengthening collaboration in social assistance, family development and the delivery of social services.

According to officials, the two sides exchanged views on practical measures to deepen cooperation between social institutions in Somalia and Türkiye, with the goal of improving service delivery, boosting institutional capacity and enhancing policy coordination.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to establish a joint technical team tasked with drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two ministries. The MoU is expected to accelerate joint programmes focused on capacity building within social institutions.

Prof. Salim Aliyow Ibro thanked the Turkish government and people for their continued support and longstanding ties with Somalia, reaffirming Mogadishu’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations in the social sector.

The discussions underscore the close partnership between Somalia and Türkiye, particularly in advancing social development and institutional strengthening.
