Mogadishu, January 22, 2026 – Somalia’s Council of Ministers on Thursday discussed the country’s security situation, ongoing military operations, and the government’s dialogue platform for political actors.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, praised the Somali National Armed Forces for their efforts in defending civilians and highlighted their recent success in defeating a militant attack by Khawarij extremists in the Kudhaa area.
Ministers approved a memorandum of understanding between Port Service Commissions in the Indian Ocean region, submitted by the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport, and ratified the Somali Postal Policy 2025–2030 prepared by the Ministry of Communications and Technology.
Reports were also presented on the government’s integrated performance management strategy and the forthcoming political consultation conference, aimed at strengthening national dialogue and political consensus.
