MOGADISHU — The U.S. Embassy in Somalia on Monday urged Somali leaders to prioritise dialogue and political compromise, warning that consensus-building remains essential to the country’s stability and future.

In a statement, the embassy acknowledged that negotiations and concessions can be difficult, but stressed they are critical to achieving lasting political agreement and national cohesion.

“We encourage Somalia’s leaders to continue seeking every possible path toward understanding and cooperation,” the statement said.

The embassy underlined that a unified, Somali-led political process is key to addressing major national priorities, including the fight against armed groups, strengthening governance and advancing development goals.

It said greater political unity would bolster efforts to counter security threats, while also helping to build stronger, more effective state institutions capable of delivering services to citizens.

The statement added that consensus among leaders would enable Somalia and its international partners to move forward on shared priorities related to stability and long-term development.

The embassy emphasised that compromise is essential to securing the country’s broader national interest, noting that political unity is not only a domestic necessity but also a foundation for deeper international cooperation.
