Mogadishu — Former Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed has warned against unilateral decisions on electoral reforms and constitutional amendments, saying such moves could undermine democracy and national unity.
In a statement, the ex-leader said issues related to elections and changes to Somalia’s provisional constitution require broad consultations involving all Somali political stakeholders and segments of society.
He stressed that any decisions on the constitution or the electoral system should be reached through inclusive dialogue to ensure consensus and stability.
Farmaajo also urged authorities to respect previous political agreements and established procedures governing the country’s electoral and constitutional processes, warning that bypassing them could deepen political divisions in Somalia.
