KAMPALA — Somalia’s minister of labour and social affairs, Prof. Saalim Alio Ibrow, took part in the seventh Regional Ministerial Forum on Labour Migration for East and Horn of Africa, held in Kampala, officials said.
The regional meeting in Uganda focused on harmonising labour migration policies across East and Horn of Africa and creating a unified framework to ensure safe, orderly and regular labour mobility in line with international labour standards.
During the forum, the Somali minister joined discussions on strengthening labour migration governance, addressing existing challenges and developing sustainable strategies to enhance workers’ rights and employment opportunities across the region.
Ibro emphasised the importance of coordinated management of labour migration, describing it as a key opportunity for economic growth and improved labour protections.
“Labour migration is an important opportunity that must be properly managed to strengthen economic growth, protect workers’ rights and create sustainable employment conditions,” he said.
