MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation on Saturday expressed deep concern over deadly clashes between rival clans in the Jalalaqsi district of Hiraan region, calling for an immediate and unconditional cessation of hostilities.
In a statement, the ministry said the fighting over the past two days had resulted in loss of life and property and condemned what it described as unlawful targeted attacks that run contrary to Islamic principles and Somali traditions.
The ministry said the violence had caused deaths, injuries, arson, looting and widespread displacement among civilians in the area, urging all parties to halt the conflict without delay.
It also warned that legal action would be taken against individuals using social media platforms to spread inflammatory content and messages aimed at provoking violence and sowing division within communities.
The ministry called on traditional elders, religious leaders, women, youth, intellectuals and the Hirshabelle regional administration to play an active role in ending the clashes, promoting reconciliation and strengthening peaceful coexistence among communities.
It further urged local stakeholders to work towards a lasting solution to the dispute, while offering condolences to the families of those killed and prayers for the recovery of the wounded and for those affected by the violence.
