At least 3 people killed in flash floods in Ghana

Accra, Ghana – At least three people have died after torrential rains caused severe flooding in parts of the Ghanaian capital, Accra.

Emergency teams used boats to rescue residents, including at least 15 children and infants, after floodwaters submerged homes, roads and vehicles.

Authorities said one man drowned in Alajo district, while two others died after a flooded house was electrocuted when power lines came into contact with floodwaters.

The Ghanaian government has urged the public to avoid non-essential travel, as police, firefighters and the military continue rescue operations.

Weather forecasts also warn of more heavy rains in the coming days, which could increase the risk of further flooding.

Accra regularly faces seasonal flooding, with rapid urbanization and a poor drainage system exacerbating the effects of heavy rains.
