MOGADISHU — Somalia’s foreign minister received the credentials of Algeria’s newly appointed ambassador on Sunday, as the two countries pledged to strengthen cooperation across political, economic and security sectors.
Foreign Minister Abdisaalam Abdi Ali accepted copies of the letters of credence from Mohamed Alim, Algeria’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Somalia, during a ceremony in Mogadishu, the foreign ministry said.
The minister welcomed the new envoy and reaffirmed the Somali government’s commitment to deepening its longstanding ties with Algeria.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation, with a focus on politics, trade, security and cultural exchanges, according to the ministry.
Somalia and Algeria maintain diplomatic relations and cooperate through regional and multilateral organizations, including the African Union and the Arab League.
Both governments have said they are seeking to broaden bilateral engagement as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen regional partnerships and attract greater international cooperation.
