LAS ANOD, Somalia — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre arrived in Las Anod on Sunday to attend celebrations marking the first anniversary of the Northeastern State administration and launch government development initiatives, officials said.
Barre, accompanied by several cabinet ministers, was received at Las Anod airport by leaders of the Northeastern State administration, traditional elders and residents who gathered to welcome the delegation.
Speaking to supporters at the airport, the prime minister thanked residents for the reception and said he had joined them to celebrate the administration’s anniversary.
“I thank you for your warm welcome. I want to tell you that I care deeply about you. We are together, and I am here to join you in celebrating the anniversary of the administration,” Barre said.
The prime minister’s office said several federal ministries would launch public service and development projects during the visit, although it did not provide details.
Barre is also expected to attend a public event alongside the Northeastern State leadership to commemorate the administration’s first anniversary.
The visit marks one of the highest-level federal engagements with the administration since its establishment and comes as the Somali government seeks to expand public services and strengthen cooperation with regional authorities.
