MOGADISHU [SMN] – Fighting between Somali government forces and Al-Shabaab militants broke out in parts of the coastal town of Barawe in the Lower Shabelle region.
Local sources told Shabelle Media that after the attack, there was a fierce battle between the forces and Al-Shabaab who attacked Barawe airport.
According to government officials, five al-Shabaab members were killed in the fighting, and their weapons were seized.
Meanwhile, Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the battle, which was claimed by the Somali military.
The situation is now calm and Somali government forces are conducting operations in and around Barawe airport.
