Al-Shabaab fighters have claimed victory in recent hours in clashes with government and Galmudug forces in the southern Mudug region.
A statement from the Al-Shabaab said fighting was reported to have killed at least 30 soldiers and officers, including, also injured dozens of other military forces.
Al-Shabaab also claimed to have captured the commander of the Galmudug state navy, identified as Hirsi Ali Shire.
Al-Shabaab said in a statement that it had seized weapons and ammunition in the fighting.
Galmudug, for its part, has claimed victory in the battle, claiming to have inflicted heavy casualties on al-Shabaab fighters.
In recent times, there have been heavy battles in areas in the southern Mudug region of central Somalia.
