MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Ministry of Defense gave details of operations carried out by the SNA forces in areas under the Galhareeri district of the Galgaduud region on Wednesday.

In a press conference, Brigadier General Anod, the spokesman of the defense ministry said that 30 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the operations and a vehicle filled with explosives was destroyed before reaching its target.

“At Eel Ba’ad and Lix Irdood in the southwest of Galhareeri, there was a heavy battle between SNA and Al-Shabaab on Wednesday. We have confirmed that about 30 militants were killed, and one of our soldiers was martyred,” said the spokesman.

Anod added that the military operation is ongoing in the four directions of the Eastern Galgadud region, and in the next few hours Al-Shabaab will be removed from their places in that region.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Somalia once again called on the people living in the cities of Elbur and Galhareeri to stay away from the group’s bases. Somalia remains central to stability and security in all of East Africa.

In January this year, the Somali government forces captured Gal’ad and Harardhere, two towns previously controlled by the militant group al-Shabab in the central Galmudug State.

Located in the central Mudug region, Harardhere is a key coastal town and a former pirate hub. It was the biggest and most strategic town in Galmudug that was still in the hands of al-Shabab until Monday.

Somali government has reported killing hundreds of militants and seizing dozens of localities in neighboring Hirshabelle state since the military operations were launched in August.
