MOGADISHU, Somalia, April 19 (SMN) – At least one child was killed and another wounded after several mortar rounds struck residential areas in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, according to local sources.

The shelling reportedly targeted multiple districts in the city, with some mortars landing in Hamar Jajab district, specifically in the Ansaloti Bridge area, where makeshift homes made of thatch were hit.

A 12-year-old girl was killed and an 11-year-old boy injured as they were on their way to a Quranic school, witnesses said. The boy’s father rushed him to Yardemeli Hospital for treatment, describing the ordeal as devastating.

The father, who described himself as a struggling man with limited means, said no one came to their aid in time, which contributed to his daughter’s death from severe bleeding. He appealed to the Somali public for support.

Additional mortar rounds reportedly struck Waabari and Shangani districts, causing further casualties, though exact figures have not yet been confirmed.

Attempts to reach security officials for comment were unsuccessful. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but such incidents are often attributed to the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab militant group.
