EL-WAK [SMN] – At least two soldiers were wounded in a landmine blast in Elwaq district of the Gedo region, in an attack that comes as Jubaland readies to hold Lower House vote.
The explosion reportedly took place in the meeting hall of the district administration headquarters, while Jubbaland forces were stationed there on Friday.
Two security officers were injured in the blast and have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment. The building was also badly damaged by the IED bombing.
The situation is now calm, and further investigations are underway by security agencies operating in the Elwaq district.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack but the incident bore all the hallmarks of Al-Shabaab bombings in Somalia.
