MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a press statement released on November 23, 2024, the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) expressed its concern over allegations reported in the Somali media regarding its police component’s involvement in the upcoming Jubaland State elections.
ATMIS has declared its commitment to neutrality and impartiality in the electoral process of Somalia, particularly in the ongoing electoral dispute in Jubaland. The mission emphasized its dedication to peaceful resolutions for electoral conflicts to maintain stability and security within the region.
The AU Mission has urged all involved parties, including the Federal Government of Somalia and Jubaland State authorities, to engage in constructive and inclusive dialogues to resolve the current dispute.
ATMIS reaffirmed its role in supporting Somalia’s state-building activities, focusing on transitioning to one-person, one-vote elections through an inclusive and participatory approach.
