JOWHAR, Somalia — Troops from the 5th Division of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) based at Jowhar Airport distributed clean drinking water to more than 200 residents of the Towfiiq Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp.

The officer in charge of Civil-Military Cooperation for AUSSOM, G/Dhexe Nzirorera Pierre, said the initiative reflects the mission’s commitment to supporting vulnerable families affected by conflict and natural disasters.

Recipients of the aid expressed their gratitude, noting that the clean water distribution came at a critical time during ongoing water shortages exacerbated by the El Niño rains, which had previously caused widespread humanitarian challenges.

The operation is part of AUSSOM’s ongoing efforts to strengthen civil-military cooperation in the HirShabelle region. Troops continue to provide assistance to affected communities through water distribution, medical support, and humanitarian aid programs.

“These activities demonstrate the mission’s dedication to both security and humanitarian support,” officials said, emphasizing that aid operations will continue alongside military efforts to stabilize the region.
