MOGADISHU — Authorities in Somalia’s Banadir region said they had placed emergency response and health services on full alert, deploying sufficient vehicles and personnel to respond to any incidents as Mogadishu prepares to hold a local election on Wednesday.

Banadir Governor and Mogadishu Mayor Hassan Mohamed Hussein, known as Muungaab, said the municipal administration had fully prepared fire engines, ambulances and trained staff who will operate around the clock to ensure the safety of residents expected to take part in the vote.

“All emergency services are on standby to respond to any unforeseen situation, so that citizens can participate in the election in a safe and secure environment,” Muungaab said.

Authorities also reminded residents of the emergency short code 991, which can be used to request urgent assistance, including fire and medical services.

The mayor reiterated that the local government remains committed to serving and protecting the public, urging Mogadishu residents to participate peacefully and responsibly in the election scheduled for Wednesday.

The announcement was made during a meeting attended by deputy governors responsible for security and political affairs, public works officials, department directors and other senior officials from the Banadir regional administration and the Mogadishu municipality.
