MOGADISHU [SMN] – At least two government soldiers were killed and three others wounded in a blast in the Somali capital, Mogadishu on Monday morning.
A witness said a suspected explosive roadside device detonated in Mogadishu’s Daynile District, targeting a military vehicle driving in El-Irfid area.
There have been no claims of responsibility at the time of the incident; al-Shabaab militants are likely responsible.
Heightened security and travel disruptions have impacted the area as police launch an investigation into the bomb attack.
Mogadishu has witnessed relative calm since the reelection of Hassan Sheikh as 10th president in May 2022.
A paramilitary force trained by Uganda is in charge of the capital’s security working at around the clock to maintain stability.
