MOGADISHU, Somalia — A businessman was shot dead on the outskirts of Mogadishu last night after refusing to pay an extortion demanded by two armed men in military uniforms, according to reports.
The incident took place in the Elasha Biyaha area near Mogadishu, the Somali capital.
The victim, identified as Yusuf Ali Hussein, owned a clothes shop and a tailor in the area.
The assailants, armed with AK47 rifles, demanded hundreds of US dollars from Hussein, and when he refused to pay, he was shot, resulting in his death.
Hussein’s relatives are demanding justice and the arrest of the accused, who fled the scene after the murder. Security forces are currently searching for the suspects.
The killing has created a panic in the community of Celsha Biyaha, who were shocked by the incident.
