MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Somali forces with the help of the local people known as Mawisleyda carried out a joint operation on Thursday morning in the Barag Gurgurte area which is one of the areas under Harardhere district.
The operation killed more than 30 Al-Shabaab members who were at their base in the Barag Gurgurte area on the west side of Harardhere town in the Mudug region, where Al-Shabaab militants were gathering.
“The operation killed 33 Al-Shabaab fighters and their command base was overran by the allied troops, who are chasing the remnants from the rural areas,” said the Somali military.
The operation coincides with the Al-Shabaab leaving the areas of Dumaye and Dabagale in the south of the Mudug region after the SNA forces and the locals started operations there.
The Govt forces in villages and districts of Mudug, Galgadud, and Hiraan regions have resumed operations against the Al-Shabaab, which has been on hiatus for the past months.
The troops of the Government of Somalia made considerable progress on multiple fronts in the war on Al-Shabaab after defeating the group in Galmudug and HirShabelle states.
As part of the tactical war, the Somali government under Hassan Sheikh’s leadership offered amnesty to militants amid a raging military offensive in central parts of the country.
Since August 2022, in conjunction with clan militias, the national army has dislodged the Islamist insurgency Al-Shabaab from swathes of central Somalia and killed hundreds of militants, according to the government.
