CAIRO – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, has thanked the Egyptian government for its strong stance in protecting Somalia’s territorial integrity and independence.
The statement comes as tensions rise over a maritime agreement between Ethiopia and the northern regions of Somaliland, which Egypt has openly opposed.
At a joint press conference in Cairo with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to upholding Somalia’s nationalism and territorial sovereignty. Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s complete rejection of the contentious agreement, emphasizing the need to preserve Somalia’s independence and unity.
The ongoing maritime dispute between Somalia and Ethiopia has strained relations between the two neighboring countries, resulting in a severed diplomatic relationship. Egypt’s support for Somalia serves as a crucial demonstration of regional solidarity and a commitment to international principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Egyptian government’s firm opposition to the agreement underscores the intricate geopolitical dynamics at play in the Horn of Africa and highlights the importance of diplomatic solutions in resolving disputes and promoting regional stability.
As the international community closely follows the situation, Egypt’s vocal support for Somalia sends a powerful message of solidarity and reinforces the significance of respecting national boundaries and the rule of law.
