Ethiopia and Somalia Reaffirm Commitment to Regional Peace and Cooperation at Tana Forum

BAHIR DAR – Ethiopia and Somalia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening peace, security, and regional cooperation in the Horn of Africa as the 11th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa opened in Bahir Dar on Friday.

 

Discussions on the opening day of the forum focused on stability and peace in the Horn of Africa, with leaders and experts underscoring the importance of collective action to address the region’s security challenges.

Ethiopia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hadera Abera highlighted his country’s pivotal role in promoting regional stability, citing Ethiopia’s strategic position and long-standing leadership in advancing peace.

“Ethiopia will continue to strengthen its vital role in promoting sustainable peace and stability across the region,” Ambassador Hadera said, reaffirming Addis Ababa’s commitment to lasting regional harmony.

For his part, Somalia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ali Mohamed Omar outlined his government’s ongoing efforts to rebuild state institutions and consolidate peace after decades of conflict. He emphasized Mogadishu’s readiness to enhance collaboration with neighboring countries to achieve stability and development.

Maureen Achieng, IGAD’s representative to the African Union, stressed the regional bloc’s expanding role in facilitating dialogue, conflict resolution, and promoting greater regional integration.

The Tana High-Level Forum, regarded as Africa’s premier platform for dialogue on peace and security, brings together heads of state, policymakers, scholars, and civil society leaders.

This year’s edition is being held under the theme “Navigating Global Competition and Strengthening Regional Resilience,” reflecting on shifting geopolitical dynamics and their implications for Africa’s security landscape.
