DHUUSAMAREEB, Somalia – Former Benadir police chief and prominent political figure Saadaq Omar Hassan, widely known as Saadaq Joon, has regained his seat in the Federal Parliament after winning the Hop248 constituency in Galmudug during a by-election held on Sunday.

Saadaq previously held the same seat before vacating it following his appointment as deputy director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

The seat was later won by businessman Afwayne in a subsequent election, but he recently resigned from parliament due to unspecified personal reasons.

The latest vote saw Saadaq Joon return to the national stage, reclaiming the seat and securing his place once again in Somalia’s House of the People.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the results were announced, the newly elected MP expressed gratitude to his supporters and pledged to serve with integrity and transparency.

“I want to thank everyone who voted for me. I renew my commitment to serve the people honestly and faithfully,” he said.

The election comes amid a tense political atmosphere in Somalia, where divisions among top government officials continue to fuel instability and uncertainty.
