Mogadishu, June 24, 2025 — Former Somali presidents Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo have strongly condemned the missile attacks carried out by Iran against Qatar, targeting a US military base in the Gulf country.

The attacks, described by the former leaders as reckless and provocative, have further escalated tensions in the already volatile Middle East region.

Farmaajo, currently residing in Qatar with his family, took to social media to denounce the strikes. “I strongly condemn Iran’s aggression against Qatar. Launching missiles into a peaceful nation like Qatar violates international law and risks escalating tensions in the region and beyond. Iran must desist from these unlawful actions,” he said.

Sharif Sheikh Ahmed also voiced his condemnation on Twitter, calling the attacks “a blatant violation of international law and the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.” He stressed the urgency of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the crisis, stating, “It is time for diplomacy to cool down the tensions.”

Iran has justified the missile strikes as retaliation against US airstrikes on its nuclear facilities and claimed that the attacks specifically targeted US military assets in Qatar, posing no threat to the Qatari population.

The missile attacks mark a dangerous escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Iran and the United States, raising concerns about wider regional instability.
