DHUSAMAREB, Somalia – The president of Galmudug State of Somalia Ahmed Abdi Kariye [Qoor-Qoor], has received at his office in Dhusamareb city the EU ambassador.

During Wednesday’s meeting, the regional leader bid farewell to Tiina Intelmann as she is ending her two-year term as head of the EU mission in Somalia, based in the capital, Mogadishu.

Qoor-Qoor has applauded EU-Galmudug cooperation and support for Somalia’s progress made in several sectors. The meeting affirmed the EU’s pivotal role as the development partner.

The Discussions between the two sides also touched on Galmudug’s progress in local democracy and the preparations for one-person-one-vote district elections.

The EU carried out key projects that targeted communities in Galmudug, a state in central Somalia where the adverse impacts of climate change are contributing to the increasing risk of violent conflict.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is currently in Dhusamareb City for the mobilization of the second phase of the war against Al-Shabaab, according to his office.

European Union has a long track record of working with the Government of Somalia to deliver durable solutions to displacement while supporting Somali populations to be at the centre of their recovery amid a changing climate.

For the past decade, recurrent drought and subsequent famine risk have become a devastating and unsustainable cycle in Somalia which made the Horn of Africa country depend on foreign aid.
