MOGADISHU — The deputy executive secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Mohamed Abdi Ware, has held a series of meetings with key international partners focused on advancing peace, stability and development in Somalia and the wider region, IGAD said.

Ware met Britain’s ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, with discussions centring on peace and security, reconciliation, state-building and development.

The United Kingdom remains a major regional partner and one of the countries playing a leading role on Horn of Africa issues at the United Nations Security Council, officials said.

In a separate meeting, Ware held talks with the European Union’s ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, reaffirming strong cooperation between IGAD and the EU on peace and security, climate change, community resilience and migration.

The IGAD official also met Justin Davis, the US embassy’s chargé d’affaires in Somalia, where talks focused on peace and security, youth empowerment and strengthening livelihoods for vulnerable communities.

The United States remains a key strategic partner for Somalia and IGAD, particularly in the areas of security, development and regional stabilisation, according to officials.
