KISMAAYO [SMN] – Jubaland security forces have launched extensive operations aimed at bolstering security in Kismayo and its neighboring areas. The operations are part of ongoing efforts to neutralize threats posed by groups opposed to the Jubaland administration, including Al-Shabaab.

Reports from the Lower Jubba region indicate that the forces are conducting operations in northern areas surrounding Kismayo, the interim capital of Jubaland. These operations have specifically targeted roads leading into the city, where Al-Shabaab militants had planted improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to harm civilians and disrupt security forces.

Security officials confirmed that multiple IEDs have been successfully removed from key roads, which were deemed a significant risk to both residents and vehicles traveling through the area. The operations have impacted local communities and traffic as security forces work to restore safety.

Jubaland authorities have stated that these efforts are part of one of their most extensive security campaigns to prevent future attacks on Kismayo. The city has faced repeated assaults by Al-Shabaab, ranging from direct attacks to bombings using explosive devices.

Military officials involved in the ongoing operations reported the arrest of suspected Al-Shabaab members believed to have secretly entered areas near Kismayo to plant the explosives. They emphasized that the operations would continue until full security is restored in northern parts of the city.

The Jubaland administration expressed optimism that the situation would significantly improve in the coming weeks, as they remain committed to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
