MOGADISHU, June 14, 2025 – Mahad Salaad is set to officially assume office as the new Director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), following his recent appointment by the federal cabinet.
The formal handover ceremony will take place in Mogadishu, where Salaad will take over leadership from outgoing NISA chief Abdullahi Sanbaloolshe.
As the new head of NISA, Mahad Salaad is expected to introduce key reforms to strengthen the agency’s capacity, intensify efforts against the militant group Al-Shabaab, and improve security across Mogadishu and the rest of Somalia.
Having previously served in senior positions within the agency, Salaad brings experience and a track record of contributing to enhanced security measures in the capital.
The Somali government remains committed to bolstering national security institutions as it continues to confront ongoing challenges to peace and stability.
