DHUSAMAREB, Somalia – Reports from the eastern Galgaduud region in central Somalia indicate heightened military activity over the past several hours, as combined forces of local militias and the Somali National Army (SNA) have launched coordinated operations aimed at dislodging Al-Shabaab militants entrenched in several key areas.
The government-backed troops have received significant logistical support, including arms and equipment, to strengthen their capacity to reclaim territory under extremist control. These reinforcements are part of a broader push to regain control of eastern Galgaduud, where Al-Shabaab maintains a presence.
Colonel Ali Caraaye Gacmo Duule, a senior commander within the SNA stationed in the neighboring Mudug region, addressed the assembled forces comprising both militias and army units.
In his speech, he urged the troops to redouble their efforts, emphasizing the importance of unity and determination in the ongoing campaign to free Galgaduud from militant control.
He further underscored the government’s commitment to providing continuous support in terms of logistics and weaponry to ensure operational success. “The government is ready to supply all necessary resources; what is needed now is the concerted effort and courage from our forces on the ground to liberate our land,” Colonel Ali Caraaye stated.
This military initiative aligns with broader security operations taking place in central Somalia, particularly within the jurisdictions of the Hirshabelle and Galmudug administrations, where similar offensives against Al-Shabaab have been ongoing in recent weeks.
These efforts form part of the federal government’s strategic plan to dismantle the extremist group’s strongholds and restore peace and stability to the region.
