MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a significant development for Somalia’s urban development and reconstruction efforts, the Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali (Dhaay), and the head of the UN-Habitat organization in Africa, Mr. Oumar Sylla, have reached a cooperation agreement.
This agreement is aimed at promoting sustainable urbanization in the country.
The agreement was described by Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali (Dhaay) as a precursor to an official agreement that will soon be officially established between the Ministry of Public Works and UN-Habitat.
He highlighted the importance of this agreement in the reconstruction and development of the country, emphasizing the need for sustainable urban planning and development.
“This agreement is a significant step forward in our efforts to rebuild and develop our cities in a sustainable manner,” said Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali (Dhaay). “It will enable us to leverage the expertise and resources of UN-Habitat to drive our urban development initiatives and promote sustainable urbanization in Somalia.”
The officials from UN-Habitat welcomed the agreement, describing it as a doubling of the large-scale activities they are already conducting in Somalia.
They expressed their commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Public Works to implement sustainable urban development projects, focusing on areas such as housing, infrastructure, and urban planning.
“We are excited about the opportunity to work more closely with the Ministry of Public Works to drive sustainable urban development in Somalia,” said Mr. Oumar Sylla. “This agreement will enable us to expand our activities and contribute more effectively to the country’s reconstruction and development efforts.”
The cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Public Works and UN-Habitat is expected to pave the way for a range of urban development initiatives in Somalia, contributing to the country’s reconstruction and development.
